PERFECT

"Ways of Meaning" project. After watching the movie Run Lola Run, we were tasked with researching themes from the film and developing it over a series of three compositions. The theme I used was “perfect timing”, which is crucial to the films narrative as Lola’s journey depended on her to complete each run perfectly so that she reached her destination before disaster struck. Each action and tiniest of detail needed to be perfect in order to avoid failing, again.

I drew my own experience as a student-athlete in swimming to develop this theme. In swimming, it often feels as though you are doing everything perfectly, yet the results fail to meet the expectations. Therefore, in each of the compositions I dive into the concept of “perfect timing” in swimming. Each composition outlines the steps it takes to achieve peak performance and offers instructions on how to perfect each phase of a race. In the end, it reveals that while each step can be followed flawlessly, failure can still occur. However, the final message reveals that although things did not go according to plan, you must get back up and try again.
